In 1974, former Beatle John Lennon claimed to have seen a UFO in New York City. He was living in an apartment in Manhattan with girlfriend May Pang when he saw the flying saucer.
It wasn’t just a light in the sky and there were other witnesses. This sighting was up-close, of a huge craft, and it happened right outside Lennon’s 52nd Street apartment. He wasn’t afraid to talk about it and, in fact, he famously wrote about it in a song. This was Nobody Told Me and, as Lennon sang it, “There’s UFOs over New York and I ain’t too surprised… Nobody told me there’d be days like these. Strange days indeed.”
The sighting occurred when he was living with May Pang, his so-called “personal secretary” who’d turned into a lover during Lennon’s separation from Yoko Ono. It was a hot August night, August 23, 1974, when John Lennon walked out on his balcony facing the East River to catch a cool breeze. He was completely naked. He started yelling at Pang to come out to the terrace.

The flying saucer appears in a New York City-type scene with the initials “UFOER” on it. The drawing was done on both sides of a blank record sleeve.

When she did, she saw what he saw. According to her description later, it was a “large, circular object coming towards us. It was shaped like a flattened cone and on top was a large, brilliant red light, not pulsating as on any of the aircraft we’d see heading for a landing at Newark Airport. When it came a little closer, we could make out a row or circle of white lights that ran around the entire rim of the craft — these were also flashing on and off. There were so many of these lights that it was dazzling to the mind.

A witness in Cape Town, South Africa, is looking for an explanation for a "rounded, dome-shaped" object that appears in the upper left corner of the frame, according to April 1, 2014, testimony in Case 55140 from the MutualUFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The reporting witness filed the report for her boyfriend who she said "is not entirely convinced it is not a plane or a helicopter."
"This photograph was taken in Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday, March 2, 2014," the woman stated. "He was taking photos of the general scenery along with a friend and only noticed this shape on the left hand side of the image just above the cloud. He said there were definitely no planes or helicopters in the area."
The woman described the region where the photo was taken.
"This part of Cape Town is on the mountain near the Simonstown Naval Base which allegedly has secret underground bunkers and has been somewhat of a hub of UFO reports increasing in recent years. It is quiet, semi-wild residential area which overlooks the sea."
The witness uploaded two images with the MUFON report: Image 1 and Image 2.
Japanese witness says unseen object shook car
A Japanese witness reported both her car and the ground were "buzzing" while an unseen object apparently was hovering in the sky above, according to April 1, 2014, testimony in Case 55137 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness stated that she was driving to work and had just rolled her window partially down about 12:20 p.m. on September 29, 2013, when the incident occurred.
"Suddenly felt and heard the air vibrating and it sounded like a turbine but no planes were taking off or were around," the witness reported.
The witness then stopped her vehicle in the middle of the roadway.
"Whatever it was, was above me. It seemed to be hovering and thrusting upward affecting the air around it. I was shaking. My car was shaking. The ground shook."
Two witnesses in Rio Rancho, NM, reported experiencing a "bizarre distortion wave" that moved through the room they were sitting in about 9:38 p.m. on March 31, 2014, according to testimony in Case 55139 from the MutualUFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
"My friend and I were sitting together on the sofa watching television when suddenly a very large, potent feeling, strange wave of some sort seemed to roll silently though the living room from northwest to southeast," the reporting witness stated.
The witness described the sensation.
"I can only describe it as a large distortion ripple that flowed through the entire room like a tsunami. It didn't seem as tall as the room, but perhaps around 6 feet tall and rounded at its leading edge. During the waves passing through us and the room, I remember seeing a slight distortion as if I were looking through curved glass. It felt as if my friend, I, and the sofa were being lifted up about 12 inches. I remember feeling momentarily weightless (perhaps a second or two) and set back down. It seemed like the couch was distorted upward and us with it, then returned to normal."
A Charlottesville, VA, witness reported a chevron-shapedUFO gliding silently under 400 feet over his home about 1 a.m. on March 28, 2014, according to testimony in Case 55008 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness reported that he could not sleep and went outside for a cigarette when the object was first seen.
"It was a breezy, clear night, with very few clouds in the sky," the witness stated. "I leaned back on the deck railing and tilted my head back to see the stars. As I looked up, the wind quickly died down to a calm silence and then I noticed the black/slightly reflective chevron, V-shaped object come into vision from the southeast over the tree tops."
The witness described the object's movement.
"The object proceeded to glide directly over my head approximately 200-400 feet in altitude with no sound and no light emitted in a slight arch to the west. I estimate that the V was between 12-20 feet wide. Within 5-10 seconds I lost sight of the object behind a large tree in my backyard."
A Hungry Horse, MT, witness reported an early morning encounter with a disc-shaped UFO that hovered about 1,000 feet overhead that appeared to be observing a new dam building built, according to March 28, 2014, testimony in Case 55007 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The young witness and his "grade school buddy" were sleeping in a camper where a blanket covered one side the morning of May 7, 1951.
"We woke up early in the morning and moved the blanket to look out," the witness stated. "When we opened the blanket we noticed an object coming from the north near Glacier National Park, MT. At first we thought it might be an airplane which would be extremely rare. As kids of the age of 11 or 12 we were very interested in building model airplanes so wanted we keep watching. It wasn't moving very fast."

…And there you have it! This was the end of our discussion about the Mars mission, but I have remained in touch with Chad. At this point, I hope to be able to convince him to do a video or TV interview, but of course, there will be more than a few obstacles to overcome, the main one being that he may currently be in some danger if he goes public.
Furthermore, there is always the barrier of peoples' understandable skepticism.
