The first Brit in space has revealed that she believe in aliens.
Dr Helen Sharman, who became the first Brit in space in 1991, said she believed there ‘must be’extra terrestrial life on other planets. The 50-year-old, who now heads the science, engineering and computing faculty at Kingston University in south west London, also said she ‘refused to watch’ the movie Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Speaking this week, Dr Sharman - who went into space after answering a job ad stating ‘Astronaut wanted. No experience necessary’ - said the movie ‘did not look realistic enough’ from a trailer she had seen of it. She flew to the Mir space station and spent eight days in space after being chosen from 13,000 people who applied to a private British space programme called Project Juno. She said of the movie: “I have not seen it. I was sent the trailer - I’m sure it’s a very interesting film but it didn’t look realistic to me and it did not appeal to me. Apollo 13 however is a fantastic film - very realistic.” When asked if alien life existed, she replied: “There must be.” |
