An Indiana witness at West Lafayette reported watching and photographing a fast-moving, triangle-shaped UFOwith three lights, according to Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Case 52313 closed as an Unknown on February 27, 2014.
Indiana Assistant State Director Ned Delaney investigated. The witness was using a telescope to review moon craters when he stepped away for a moment and noticed three lights in the sky to the northwest about 11:30 p.m. on November 17, 2013.
"As it got closer I could see it was one of those triangles people talk about," the witness stated. The witness ran inside immediately for a camera. Stepping back outside, he could still see the object.
"It was on the same course, so I fumbled with the camera to set it and when I looked back up the thing was changing. The white lights on the three ends started changing from white to red to blue and it started over faster and faster until the whole craft lit up."
The witness provided one photo with the MUFON report, which was filed on November 20, 2013.
"Well I aimed the camera and braced myself on the porch and snapped one picture. I looked at the photo and back up and it was in a SHOT in the left to the east. I've never seen anything that fast. I've spent a lot of time at the telescope and seen a lot, some with no explanation, but never seen anything that close. I felt like it wanted to be seen. Why else would it be that bright at night?
Investigator Delaney provided weather information for the day and time of the sighting: "Clear, little wind, temperature in the upper 40s to lower 50s. It should be noted that this event took place just hours following a major storm cell that included numerous tornadoes throughout the state. The Lafayette/West Lafayette area was experiencing numerous power outages following this storm, which would have increased area visibility that evening."
Delaney concluded that the object was an "Unknown."
"The object could have been following the storm front as it passed through the area," he stated. "Witness places object very close to the Purdue Airport. Considering the witness familiarity with aircraft in and around the Purdue Airport, as well as his military background, the abnormal nature of the object in question should be noted. Object appears to duplicate characteristics of recent triangular phenomena observed and reported. Photo attachment is inconclusive, though this Field Investigator has seen similar photos posted related to UAV reports. Case Disposition recommendation: UAV - Unidentified Aerial Vehicle."
Indiana has a UFO Alert Rating of 5 with a low number of recent reports nationally. Indiana had 5 reports in January 2014 and was the 31st highest reporting state - while California had 102 reports - the highest reporting state in the nation.

The above quotes were edited for clarity. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or man-made. If Indiana MUFON investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.
